Diagnostics at Our Animal Hospital

Digital X-rays

Digital radiography produces images faster, and in much higher quality, than standard film. The images can then be enhanced and enlarged on screen to view things that may not have been detectable on film x-rays. Radiographs allow us to view a wide variety of internal structures to identify and diagnose medical conditions. These images can also be transferred to disc for referrals or for review by a specialist.

Electrocardiography (EKG)

An electrocardiogram (EKG) is a non-invasive and painless test used to monitor your pet's heart to identify irregularities or conditions. We run EKG's in clinic, and the results are sent to a cardiologist for analysis and review. Results are obtained in 24-48 hours. In emergencies, the results will be available in less than 1 hour.

Laboratory Services

Bon Air Animal Hospital has a sophisticated in-house laboratory available for pre-anesthetic testing, emergencies, and any conditions requiring same day results. In addition to blood cell counts, electrolytes, and chemistries, we also run heartworm tests, urinalysis, fecal exams, feline leukemia and FIV tests, and fungal cultures in house. This allows us to provide a high quality of care to our patients.

Ultrasound

We offer ultrasonography as a non-invasive, diagnostic tool for our patients. Ultrasound uses sound waves to generate images of internal structures, and allows us to view tissue abnormalities, fluid-filled encapsulated areas, and internal organs. It provides real time images of internal abdominal and thoracic organs, allowing us to diagnose or monitor certain medical conditions. Our veterinarians also use the ultrasound to guide for biopsies, or to view the bladder when collecting sterile samples of urine.
